On April 26th, the 2021 Digital Twin Technology Summit was grandly held at the Beijing National Convention Center. The conference is guided by the China Geographic Information Industry Association, hosted by the Digital Twin Technology and Application Working Committee of the China Geographic Information Industry Association (hereinafter referred to as the Digital Twin Working Committee), organized by Terra Info Tech (Beijing) Co., Ltd. and Beijing Brilliant Technology Co., Ltd., and co organized by the Urban Data Security Management Center of the China Urban Science Research Association and the Beijing Software and Information Service Industry Association. Wang Chunfeng, member of the CPPCC National Committee, Liu Xianlin, academician of the CAE Member, Sun Yuguo, president of the China Geographic Information Industry Association, Wang Mingxiao, consultant of the Digital Twin Working Committee, Liu Junwei, chairman of the Digital Twin Working Committee, and Wang Jue attended the meeting. Nearly 400 experts and practitioners participated in the offline conference, and nearly 50000 people attended the conference through online live streaming, jointly discussing the challenges and opportunities of the digital twin era, as well as the technological integration and application innovation of digital twin technology in new infrastructure, new basic surveying and other fields, promoting the high-quality development of the geographic information industry.

Academician Liu Xianlin pointed out in his speech that digital twins have been included in the outline of the 14th Five Year Plan. We need such a conference to strengthen our practical and collaborative abilities in a timely manner, go global, and gain true knowledge through practice. At present, digital twin technology is still in its early stages of application, and some comrades have insufficient understanding of this technology and are accustomed to interpreting this new thing from the cognitive perspective of the traditional surveying and mapping knowledge system. We must recognize that digital twins empower the work of new basic surveying with a completely new approach and concept, and must learn successful experiences from international and even other industries, rather than working behind closed doors or blindly switching concepts. The new basic surveying and mapping integrates digital twin technology, achieving the materialization, structuring, and semantics of data. How to produce structured spatiotemporal big data has always been a topic we need to learn. Let data speak for itself, and through digital twin technology, new basic surveying and mapping can show 'diseases' to cities and make them healthier. The layout of digital twin technology in various cities in China has broken through many technical barriers. We must have the courage to catch up with the world's advanced level!

In his speech, President Sun Yuguo said that not long ago, the improvement of the urban information model platform and operation management service platform, the construction of the urban data resource system, the promotion of the construction of the urban data brain, and the exploration of building digital twin cities were included in the national "14th Five Year Plan" outline and recognized as the core technology for building a digital China at the national level. Digital twins have also been recognized as one of the top ten strategic technological development trends by international authoritative analysis institutions. Their application scenarios have penetrated into various aspects such as autonomous driving, industrial intelligent manufacturing, smart cities, and personal health management, playing a disruptive role. The China Geographic Information Industry Association has established the Digital Twin Technology and Application Working Committee, aiming to promote an innovative system that combines industry, academia, research, and application of digital twin technology in geographic information and related fields, assist in the construction of digital twins, and promote the innovative development of digital twins. I hope that with the promotion of the two chairman units of the working committee, we can further strengthen exchanges through more summits like this, and persist in making achievements in this field. I look forward to promising entrepreneurs and enterprises seizing the opportunities of digital twin technology development, persisting in research and development of core technologies, and expanding application innovation, in order to promote the high-quality development of the geographic information industry.

Liu Junwei delivered a keynote speech on "Challenges and Opportunities in the Digital Twin Era" at the meeting. He said that during the epidemic, the demand for intelligent supervision, including digital twins, at the government and city levels has grown exponentially. For the surveying and geographic information industry, exploring how the full industry chain capability of digital twins can cope with the rapidly changing business process can uncover immeasurable opportunities. The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology has released the "Digital Twin White Paper" for four consecutive years, and some industry enterprises, including Terui Digital Innovation, have also participated in the development of the white paper earlier. This means that digital twin technology is gradually being recognized by the market. But the market is also facing unprecedented challenges, which requires the integration of industrial chain ecological resources and the joint promotion of digital twin technology to empower industrial development.

Wang Jue stated in the theme report "Application of Digital Twin Technology in New Infrastructure" that new infrastructure is becoming a necessary choice to lead the high-quality development of China's economy. In practical applications, it can evaluate the current state, diagnose past problems, and predict future trends, achieve dynamic correspondence between the physical world and the digital world, meet the operational needs of the physical world, guide the construction and operation optimization of the future real world, and provide stable support for high-quality economic and social development and a better life for the people.
