The "2023 Geospatial Information Technology Innovation Conference" was grandly held at the Beijing International Convention Center on October 18-19, 2023. With the theme "The Way of Geography: Enhancing the Real and the Digital, Creating a Smarter World," the conference was jointly organized by the China Geospatial Information Industry Association, the Chinese Society for Geodesy, Photogrammetry and Cartography, the China Information Industry Association, the China Regional Science Association, the College of Earth and Space Sciences at Peking University, the College of Resources and Environmental Sciences at Wuhan University, the Institute of Geographic Sciences and Natural Resources Research at the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and EGIS Information Technology Co., Ltd. The conference aims to promote continuous innovation in geospatial information technology and applications, support the sustainable development of the geospatial information industry, facilitate the exchange of successful application experiences in geospatial information technology, enhance the independent innovation level of domestic GIS software, and interpret how the way of geography can help us leverage the value of data, apply it more intelligently, and serve the construction of a digital China, creating and building a better world where the virtual and the real coexist and thrive.

Brilliant Co., Ltd., as a new infrastructure provider for the metaverse, relies on its independently developed digital twin operating system BLinkOS. With nearly two decades of technological accumulation and experience, the company has created a digital twin smart transportation solution. This solution covers the core technologies and products for daily management, twin monitoring, training exercises, operational diagnostics, and simulation predictions in smart transportation.

Zou Ning stated that, in conjunction with the Ministry of Transport's issuance of the "Opinions on Promoting the Digital Transformation of Highways and Accelerating the Development of Smart Highways," smart transportation involves not only the construction of modern and aesthetic civil engineering infrastructure but also the simultaneous development of a digital smart transportation system. This system aims to accurately represent the operational, developmental, and change processes of transportation, achieving digital management and services throughout the entire lifecycle of transportation, from design, construction, to operation.

Digital Twin Design

Design Outcome Presentation: By integrating 2D and 3D visualization methods, it is possible to integrate design and current spatial data, transforming planning and design schemes from text and documents to a more intuitive and vivid form. This approach provides quantifiable and visual decision support for planning and design assessment.

Collaborative Meeting Management: Based on dual-engine rendering technology and ubiquitous interaction methods, it breaks geographical limitations. By presenting three-dimensional dynamic plans, marking and recording meeting content, making instant plan adjustments, and linking comparisons, it reduces the communication costs among multiple parties. Combined with the digital twin's ability to review and replay, it allows for the pre-emptive identification of risks during the construction period.

Digital Twin Construction

Integrated Management of Engineering Construction and Operations: The integrated management system for engineering construction and operations adheres to the concept of "integrated design, construction, and operation." Based on BIM digital design, it achieves intelligent site control, digital construction, and operation. During the construction process, BIM models and IoT technology are utilized to implement intelligent construction management on the site. Furthermore, based on BIM components and event processes, the system enables the construction party to manage the construction unit's project comprehensively, covering "four controls, two managements, and one coordination," achieving fine-grained control and digital management of the project's progress, quality, and cost review. This addresses the issues of low collaborative efficiency and uncontrollable quality in project management, making the dynamics of engineering construction knowable, perceptible, visible, and controllable. Additionally, the system provides functions for the electronic transfer of engineering archives, visual transfer of assets, and the transfer of digital twin engineering airports, effectively linking construction with operations to achieve integrated management.

Smart Construction Site Management: The smart construction site management system utilizes information technology to establish an interconnected, collaborative, intelligent production, and scientific management information ecosystem around the entire construction process. It performs data mining and analysis in a virtual environment to achieve visual and intelligent management of construction projects, thereby enhancing the level of information management in engineering. Smart construction site management focuses on several key factors of the construction site, including "personnel, safety, quality, progress, collaboration, and environment." Through the organizational structure of smart construction site users, it ensures effective information dissemination, timely follow-up of issues, and orderly management of the construction site, aiming to create a safe and efficient working environment.

Digital Twin Operations

Twin Asset Management: Unlike traditional asset ledger management, the visual asset management system is based on a digital twin service platform. It constructs a location-based visual equipment asset management system that enables the tracking of assets' positions, maintenance, and status monitoring throughout their entire lifecycle on a full-scene map.

Operational Monitoring: Taking bridge operation monitoring as an example, digital technology is used to simulate all elements of the bridge. By connecting to relevant data interfaces, it achieves real-time monitoring of bridge structural deformation, structural stress, cable/hanger forces, and environmental data. Through intelligent analysis and prediction, it can promptly detect anomalies and take emergency response and scheduling measures to ensure the safety and orderly passage of the bridge.

Training and Drills: The emergency simulation drill and command dispatch system built with digital twin technology can assist management personnel in accurately, effectively, and swiftly controlling the occurrence and escalation of emergencies, carrying out effective rescue operations, reducing the loss caused by incidents, and quickly organizing the return to normal conditions.

Against the backdrop of the nation's advancement into industrial digitalization and intelligence, the demand for transformation and upgrading across all industries continues to emerge. With the introduction of relevant domestic policies, digital twin technology plays a significant role in promoting the intelligent transformation of the entire industry. Digital twin is a key technology in driving the development of new infrastructure, constructing the infrastructure of the digital world.
